Class Descriptions

Classes are usually held from 10am - 3.30pm and cost $69 per session

There are classes here to suit everyone from beginners to experienced students.

I teach beginners together for best results, with post-beginners and more advanced students in separate classes in mixed group combinations. This has been extremely successful, with students in mixed groups being inspired by the work of others, and wanting to do "what she's doing" next.

You can plan your own short course by pre-booking a minimum of 3 sessions at a discounted price.

Please phone to discuss the classes - I try to accommodate all reasonable requests.

Group bookings and country bookings are welcome at a discounted price.

The Basics - Step by Step
For beginners and those who want to broaden their skills. This class introduces participants to the history and process of felt making in a one-day workshop. It is a prerequisite for mixed workshop sessions. Students will go home with the basic skills of felt making and will produce a gorgeous scarf or a colourful set of samples.

Mixed Workshops
Work on your own project with my help, or enjoy learning new techniques to enhance your felt making skills. Choose from the projects and techniques listed below which take from one to two sessions to complete. Mark those that you are interested in, along with the dates you want to attend on your application form.

Scarves, Scarves, Scarves
Make two different flat felt scarves in a day. Try several ideas for fringing and edges.

Soft & Drapable
Explore the combination of silk fabric, wool fibres and other textures to create a new gorgeous fabric which is incredibly light, soft and drapable. Make samples in two different techniques in the first session, and then go on to make wraps, scarves, over-skirts and window furnishings.

Designing with Prefelts
Learn how to make pre-felt pieces and, with the addition of simple embroidery stitches, create a table runner or cushion front. See how this simple technique opens up enormous possibilities for creating felt.

Attention Quilters & Patchworkers
Further explore the use of pre-felts in combination with patchwork techniques to develop your own felted quilts. Add surface stitch as much or a s little as you desire. Ideal for patcheworkers and quiltmakers who are itching to try something new.

Soft & Snuggly Baby Blanket
A one-day project in which you will design a modern baby blanket or bassinet cover from prefelts and wool batts (from Fibre Fusion). Learn to use simple stitches to embellish your work. This makes a wonderful gift for family or special friends.

Bags of Fun
Create a simple bag or purse without seams from wool fibres and a plastic resist, or make a bag from flat felt. Make felted cords and dreads for use as embellishments, bag handles or whatever else you can think of.

Simply irRESISTible
Explore the use of plastic resists to create secret pockets, flaps and crevices within your felt work. They make excellent decorative effects and add interest to your felt pieces. Make a wall hanging and use flowers and nature as your inspiration.

Colours of the Rainbow
Explore the way colours blend in felt making, using hand blending and hand carders to mix the fibres. Produce a colourful set of samples to take home.

Funky Felt Dolls & Creatures
A two-day class for grownups & children. You will design your own whimsical creature, make the felt, cut out the pattern, stitch it up, stuff it and embellish with stitching, wrapped cords and dreads. More is more.
